The PTE exam can be taken in the following formats:
PTE Young Learners — is the great opportunity to check the language level of a child. Children from 7 to 15 can take this exam, that has both written and spoken parts. Candidates who take YL (an exam for children) and do not receive the necessary amount of points, get encouraging certificate – Certificate of Attendance.

PTE General
The PTE General exam aims to test your everyday English that is used for successful daily communication with the native speakers. The written part of PTE General includes tasks on listening, reading and writing. All the written tests are checked by the examiners of Edexcel in the UK. The spoken tasks are evaluated by the local examiners who are specially trained for this and who have appropriate qualification. Nevertheless, recordings with the spoken answers are also sent to the UK, to verify the accuracy of estimate.
The PTE General test is mainly about for students with different language proficiency, that is why it has 5 levels of difficulty – from Foundation (A1) to Proficient (C2). The duration of the exam depends on the difficulty level that is chosen by a test taker. The higher level the more difficult tasks the more time is given to perform them. The written part lasts from 75 minutes to 175 minutes (2 hours 55 minutes). The spoken part presents the personal interview and as in IELTS and TOEFL its can lasts from 5 to 8 minutes.
The written part consists of 9 sets that are united with the common theme that depends on the difficulty level. For lower levels of difficulty such common items can be connected with spare time, families, shopping, for more advanced levels – some abstract items, for example, pollution of environment, influence of politics on education, such items require expressing personal opinion on some issues. As for the tasks they can include questions with multiple choice after spoken or written passage, writing for dictation, writing an essay or short story.
The spoken part has 3 or 4 tasks that can be in a form of a dialogue with an examiner, a role play, a personal interview where the test taker should answer some questions, a monologue on some item or description of an image (3-5 level). The maximum score you can get for an exam is 90 points.

Structure of PTE Academic (specialized academic exam format)
Part Speaking & Writing consists of several tasks testing your ability to understand a text: a short story about yourself (30 seconds), reading the text aloud, repeating a sentence after listening, describing an image, retelling of a lecture and answering short questions. Also, a test taker will be given 10 minutes for summarizing a text and 20 minutes for writing an essay that should contain 200-300 words.
Part Reading includes such tasks as multiple choice questions, paragraphs re-ordering, filling in the gaps.
Part Listening consists of the tasks connected with summarizing of the spoken text, multiple choice tasks, filling in the gaps, highlighting incorrect words, writing from dictation.
The PTE Academic is an online test that means you do not need an examiner. A test taker will have three-hour computer-based exam: a microphone and headsets are used for reading, listening and speaking parts, special software is used to make notes, so there is not just one person responsible for your score.
How Is the PTE Test Scored?
Candidates who successfully passed PTE General get certificates with scores, that verify their English language level:

For PTE Academic you can get maximum 90 points. To get certificate it is necessary to give right answers for 60% of the tasks.
How long is it necessary to prepare for PTE?
